Our Son’s First Birthday at Home

Here’s everything we DIY’d for our son’s first birthday party at home.

I can’t believe we have one year old. It’s a little surreal if I’m being honest. We decided on hosting an intimate birthday celebration for him in our home instead of booking a venue. We took it a step further and decided not to have a defined theme (like very berry first, the big one, or wild one) for the party. We wanted to forego the added stress and money of a large extravagant day. It turned out being a great celebration and he was smiling ear to ear the whole day.

We pretty much DIY’d everything and kept the budget under $200! Keep reading for more details.

The Decor

We chose a color scheme of blue and green and based all the decor around that. The ballon garland, birthday banner, and signage were the focal points. The balloon garland is an Amazon find that we DIY’d the night before. We’re no professionals, but I’ve done a couple of garlands now and finally feel like I have them figured out. For my tips and trick on creating your own, check out this post!

The Food

We kept food super affordable by skipping any custom cookies or fancy cakes. The cupcakes are from the grocery store and the 4″ smash cake is from a local vegan bakery. All the other food items were fairly inexpensive. I did end up making a charcuterie board that I am extremely proud of. I had to source the board from a bunch of different grocery stores to keep costs low, but it was worth it!

Menu

  • Chicken Salad Sandwiches
  • Fruit and Meat Charcuterie board
  • Chips and Dip
  • Cupcakes
  • Lemonade

Here’s a close up of my crown jewel! This was a hit amongst our guests. It had a little bit of something for everyone and lasted a couple of hours.

Even though we kept it small our little man had an amazing day! Thanks for reading!
